Kirsten Steensen, 74, receives local anesthesia for a blepharoplasty, a type of plastic surgery to modify the eyelids. Her eyelids began to droop with age, impairing her vision and necessitating the removal of excess skin. She is fully awake during the operation. Police arrest protesters after a demonstration by British anti-Islam organization the English Defence League (EDL) and counter-demonstrations by anti-fascist and pro-diversity groups turned violent. Ahead of the EDL’s rally, the domestic intelligence agency, PET, warned that members of violence-prone, right-wing groups from eastern Europe had promised to make the journey and show their support. Jane, 52, used to work as a go-go dancer and prostitute. At 17, she became pregnant and was kicked out of her home and family to fend for herself. Now she takes methadone on a weekly basis to manage her opioid dependency. "You wake up feeling so sick," she said. "Then you take the methadone, then you sweat, you sweat a lot, all over.
